Domestic Violence

Domestic violence cases can be particularly difficult because the outcome of such cases often determine the results of other legal battles such as divorces, child custody matters, and even the right to possess firearms.  A person charged with domestic violence can be forced to move out of their residence as a condition of getting out of jail, and prevented from seeing their children without supervision.  All too often, our system of justice that was set up to protect the true victims of domestic violence is hijacked by those who seek to take advantage of the system for their own purposes.  

If you are accused of a domestic assault or battery, you might be forced from your own home until the matter can be resolved.  Without an experienced and aggressive attorney at your side, a charge of domestic violence could mean months of living at motels, with relatives, or even in your car while the matter is resolved!  Domestic violence charges are especially serious, not only because of the stigma attached to such accusations, but if you plead guilty or no contest simply to get the matter over with, even if the adjudication of guilt is withheld, the records of that arrest cannot ever be sealed or expunged from your record.  

I have extensive experience with domestic violence cases.  In 1994 I became the first prosecutor assigned to the newly formed Domestic Violence division of Hillsborough County Court, and handled thousands of misdemeanor domestic violence cases.  During my later years at the State Attorney’s office I handled hundreds of serious domestic violence felony cases.  Since 2001, I have been aggressively defending people against domestic violence charges and injunctions for protection.  If you are involved in a domestic violence case such as:
